Basic Criminal Record Bureau Checks
Basic Disclosures are available for all types employment and voluntary positions not covered by the Standard or Enhanced Disclosures. This level of Disclosure contains details of convictions considered ‘unspent’ and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and held on the Police National Computer. The Basic Disclosure is applied for by and issued only to the candidate concerned. It is the candidate’s choice whether they show the Disclosure to the employer. It is not specific to any job and can be used more than once.
Anyone can actually have a Basic Disclosure.

Standard Criminal Record Bureau Checks
Standard CRB checks are no longer available for people coming in to contact with children or Vulnerable adults. Standard Disclosures contain the following;
Details of all convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer; Call 0845 2578878 to order your CRB forms.
Standard CRB checks normally take from 1-3 weeks for receipt of certificate
Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Checks
Enhanced Disclosures are for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults. In general, the type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of such people. Examples include a Teacher, Scout or Guide leader etc.
Enhanced Disclosures are also issued for certain statutory purposes such as gaming and lottery licences.
Enhanced Disclosures contain the same information as Standard Disclosures but with the addition of local police force information considered relevant by Chief Police Officers.

and
Information held by the Department of Education and Skills under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002 of those considered unsuitable or banned from working with children.
